HPU London Semester
In cooperation with Hardin-Simmons University and University of Mary-Hardin Baylor, Howard Payne offers its students the opportunity to study in London with faculty and students from our sister institutions each Spring. This program provides living accommodations in the heart of London, weekly theater visits, entry to many cultural and historical sites and events, day excursions to areas of interest outside of Central London, a 10-day coach tour of Scotland and Wales, access to transportation via Underground and bus passes, and a weekly allowance to pay for food and other necessities.
“I absolutely loved my semester studying in London and traveling around the British Isles. Traveling internationally is an experience all students should take advantage of if possible. I will always remember the incredible experiences I had there with all the friends I met. I built a fort in the hills of Scotland, hid in a castle in Wales, wandered the lake district of England, and saw the beauty of Ireland. I would go tomorrow if I could, and you should too.” – Tim Hardy, political science and international studies major from Corpus Christi, TX
CCCU Best Semester
The Council for Christian Colleges Best Semester programs offer both domestic study opportunities in places such as Nashville, Los Angeles or Washington D.C., as well as a wide variety of international opportunities including programs in Australia, China and many other places. A popular option among HPU Spanish students has been the Latin American Studies Program in Costa Rica. Best Semester programs focus on advancing education through integration of scholarship and biblical truth.

“Living with host families in Central America allowed me to experience full cultural and linguistic immersion, which provided me with opportunities to converse with Latinos about their political views, their thoughts on international economics, and global affairs, thus enabling me to gain an understanding of issues that cannot be absorbed in a university classroom. It was a life-changing and paradigm-shaping experience.” – Landon Hankins, 2013 graduate from Decatur, TX, who majored in political science and Spanish
Salzburg College
Howard Payne offers its students an opportunity to study in the beautiful city of Salzburg, Austria. This program offers a variety of course options including classes in European studies, communication and tourism management. Also, this program is especially appealing to students studying music because it provides a number of opportunities in both music history and music performance. The program includes field trips to Bavaria and Vienna.

“Studying abroad at Salzburg College is the best decision that I have ever made. Not only was I able to live in a European city and completely immerse myself in Austrian culture, I was able to spend much of the semester traveling around central and southern Europe. My experience abroad has shaped my worldviews and has inspired me to want to take on a career in international relations.” – Kerrie Ford, political science major with a specialization in international studies from Houston, TX
CGE and CAPA International
HPU is a proud member of Consortium for Global Education. CGE is a global organization that works to improve higher education by providing quality international education opportunities for universities and their students.
Students at CGE member schools also have access to the excellent programs provided by CAPA International. CAPA provides a number of global city programs in places like London, Florence, Istanbul, Dublin, and many other locations. In addition, CAPA offers its participants access to upper-level courses and a wide variety of internships. The CAPA program’s goal is to challenge, empower, and prepare its students through the use of international urban environments as classrooms.

“Studying abroad was the bravest and most exciting thing I’ve done in my life. It’s really incredible how much more you are capable of when you decide to step out of your comfort zone.” – Ashley Moon, communications major from Waxahachie, TX
